Fjord Vineyards is Matthew Spaccarelli and Casey Erdmann’s Hudson Valley project, set between Storm King Mountain and Mount Beacon, where the Hudson River cuts through the Highlands like the name promises. It’s a dramatic, cool, slightly wild place to grow grapes — and Fjord has become one of the region’s most exciting producers.
Their Albariño is the wine that helped put them on the map, and it makes total sense. This is bright, crisp and aromatic: lemon, lime, generous white peach, green apple, sea-spray salinity and a little floral lift.
Basically, this is seafood wine with an American accent. Oysters, prawns, grilled fish, crab, salads, salty crisps, sunshine, repeat. Lots to dig in to.
