Furleigh, Blancs de Noirs - 2014
Furleigh, Blancs de Noirs - 2014
Blanc de Noirs means 'white of black', meaning that 100% of the grapes used in this white wine blend are actually red grapes! Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier are used without their skins, resulting in the white wine. Produced the same way as Champagne, this is premium sparkling wine from gorgeous vineyards plots in Dorset. I was thrilled to be a guest of the proprietors Ian and Rebecca, along with my friends at Thorman Hunt who distribute the wine. The wine is aged for a minimum of 20 months in the bottle before release. Ian was voted UK Winemaker of the Year in 2012. They are very proud that all of their wine is made at Furleigh Estate from their own grapes. Unlike many of the larger English vineyards they do not import grapes from other counties.
