Pablo and his wife Andrea traded their day jobs for a life among the vines in Ribera del Duero. Pablo inherited an old vineyard from his great-grandparents, and together they’ve expanded to 22 hectares, all farmed organically and biodynamically. Andrea makes the wine while Pablo cares for the vineyards — a true hands-on duo. Vera Vides is their fresh, aromatic, and playful expression of Ribera. Instead of harvesting early to make a fresher style, they co-ferment Tinto Fino (the local name for Tempranillo) with Bobal, Garnacha, Albillo, and other rare local grapes to bring lift and aromatic complexity. Fermented with native yeasts and aged 10 months in used barrels, this more medium-bodied expression bursts with juicy black and red fruits, a touch of spice, and a lively, balanced finish. A modern, more easygoing take on Ribera del Duero. –Jennifer Bui
