This is nutty and textured with baked apple, and salty cider vinegar. Savoury and mineral-driven, let this one open up in a decanter or continue generous swirling in the glass. This top-end old vines white is aged in clay amphora. In 2010 Maria Barrena and her partner Josep Tort had the opportunity to take over a set of very old parcels from Joseph’s father, which would have otherwise been sold to a local cooperative. These included 5.5 hectares of very old vines (80+) of Xarel-lo, Macabeo, and Parellada located in the middle of a natural park and forest called ‘Foix.’ The project has since grown to nearly fifteen hectares but these initial parcels remain their most prized.
