A feisty dry red from Bryan. I think this wine is best with a bit of red meat, but my wife is very happy to drink it on its own. Punchy red plum, brambly black fruit, bit of cinnamon and spice. Bryan MacRobert is a born and bred Swartlander, with his family farm based just outside of Malmesbury. Never heard of the Swartland? Well, it may be less famous than Constantia or Stellenbosch, but this is a magical wine producing area, more rugged than the prior two - warm and dry, home to big skies, mountains, wheat fields, and hectares of rugged old bush vines.
