Austrian wine is beautiful. And precise - which shouldn't come as a surprise. While not always front of mind, Austria has a rich wine-making history that spans centuries. It’s also home to an array of outstanding grapes, many of which are rarely found outside of its borders. Gruner Veltliner, Blaufränkisch, and St Laurent all call Austria home and produce delicious and complex wines.

Another huge pro for Austrian wine is it's often overlooked. Which is great news as it means there’s so much great stuff out there at amazing prices. Austria’s climate and soil also contribute to making some of the best wine in the world. It's also surprisingly hot and sunny given its northerly latitude. As it's landlocked, some areas like Burgenland, have gloriously hot summers so can obtain really ripe, flavoursome fruit. Austria is the spiritual (and physical) home of Gruner Veltliner, that devilishly aromatic, exotic and perfumed grape, but it is also producing some serious reds with gorgeous tannin and structure. Check them out!
