Meet the Maker: Angelo Van Dyk, Yo El Rey Wines
Introducing: Angelo Van Dyk – the definition of Good People – and the one bad man behind Yo El Rey Wines from South Africa. Angelo joins us from the winery as he nears the end of the 2023 harvest!
My friend Angelo is London-based when he’s not off making wine, and we met many moons ago while working together at London's Bedales of Borough.
Yo El Rey means "I, the King", and was inspired by a young Pablo Picasso who signed an early self-portrait with this tagline. For Angelo, it’s become a mantra, and a reminder to always believe in yourself and your dreams, and to never give up on the journey.
With Yo El Rey, Angelo lets the fruit do the talking, and the results have been outstanding. They're textured and delightful, it's bottled joy.
While the UK is nearly sold-out of his wines, we've squirrelled away a few bottles of Angelo's last release – the 2019 Grenache-Syrah and 2020 Grenache Gris – find them below, they won’t last long!
You can also find the 2022 harvest recap below and watch this space for those wines to hit the virtual shelves soon, with more cuvées than ever before!
